We are currently recruiting for the following role in our Toronto office:

Commercial Real Estate Law Clerk

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including but not limited to acquisitions, development, sales and financing
  • Conducting full property title searches, including but not limited to examination of all registrations on title, preparation of chains of title back to the crown patent, confirming existence of corporate owners in chain of title, confirming legal access, and searching adjoining lands for Planning Act compliance
  • Review of plans and surveys to determine property boundaries and potential issues (i.e. encroachments, gaps, misdescriptions)
  • Obtaining off-title enquires and reviewing, analyzing and summarizing results to identify obligations, encumbrances, restrictions and any issues which may affect good title to the property
  • Preparing title requisition letters and responses to title requisition letters
  • Ordering and negotiating owner and lender policies of title insurance
  • Drafting title opinions, including but not limited to financing and development transactions
  • Attending to closings and Teraview registration
  • Ability to correspond with clients and government and quasi-governmental officials in a professional manner
  • Preparing transaction documents including closing and registration documents
  • Preparing reporting letters and closing books
  • Working knowledge of procedures, statutes, rules and regulations applicable to real property law

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8 years of commercial real estate law clerk experience in Ontario law firms
  • Law clerk certification from a recognized program
  • Significant experience in the preparation of transaction documents including closing documents and real property documents for electronic registration in the Teraview system
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and handle a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and be a strong team player
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior knowledge of commercial real estate software, including but not limited to Teraview and OnLand, and proficiency in the MS Office environment

Additional Details:

  • Compensation: $87,000 - $120,000 per annum
  • Vacancy: This position is for an existing vacancy
