Bennett Jones is one of the top 7 North American law firms in cannabis, according to investors, startups and major companies in Insider's look at the industry. To determine the top 7, New York-based Insider reached out to 29 players in the cannabis industry, from VCs to startups to multi-state operators, to get their take on the best law firms in the industry. Bennett Jones was one of the names that came up most often.
Bennett Jones was involved in three of the major deals that Insider looked at:
- Trulieve-Harvest acquisition ($2.1 billion), led by Sander Grieve;
- Cresco’s acquisition of Origin House ($496 million), led by Aaron Sonshine; and
- Subversive Capital’s acquisition of Caliva and Left Coast ventures ($425 million), led by Curtis Cusinato.
Insider reports that, "Bennett Jones was one of the first major law firms in Canada to enter the cannabis sector (2013). Since then, the firm’s cannabis practice has worked with hundreds of cannabis businesses, focusing on both US multistate operators and Canadian companies."
