We are currently recruiting for the following role in our Toronto office:

Senior Content Advisor

The Role:

The Senior Content Advisor ("SCA") is responsible for strategic content creation and thought leadership. Working together with the Client and Business Development team and with stakeholders across the firm, the SCA plays a strategic and highly proactive role in advancing the firm's strategic objectives and enhancing its position in the legal services market.

In particular, the SCA will:

  • Create market-defining strategic content and thought leadership that drives engagement, enhances the firm's credibility in the market and strengthens client relationships
  • Work in collaboration with Industry Team and Practice Group leaders and members, and individual lawyers and advisors to support business priorities through intelligence-backed content strategies that differentiate the firm across multiple channels
  • Be a key part of the team that captures and communicates our relevant experience (transactions and cases) on our web and social media platforms
  • Act as lead advisor in media relations for the firm, working with legal, business and industry media in Canada and globally to promote the insights and profile of the firm. Crisis communications must also be managed as situations arise
  • Provide expert recommendations and drafting support for key internal communications initiatives, working directly with senior firm leadership

Essential Functions:

Thought Leadership

  • The Advisor must develop a thorough understanding of the Firm's business, strategy, priorities, clientele and target audiences, and relationships with key stakeholders and leaders throughout the Firm
  • Maintain a superior knowledge of the key business and legal issues and trends impacting Industry Teams and provide relevant recommendations for content ideas and initiatives
  • Lead, from start tofinish, a range of publications and thought leadership for the firm
  • Act as an enthusiastic and highly knowledgeable ambassador for market-driven business content development best practices to all our lawyers and advisors
  • Attend and actively participate in various Industry Team and Practice Group meetings, providing strategic guidance and leading initiatives related to thought leadership and content development
  • Review and analyze the annual business plans of the Firm's Departments, Industry Teams and Practice Groups, actively supporting business objectives with thought leadership-driven strategies
  • Draft, present and lead the execution of (annual and initiative-specific) strategic communications plans for key Industry Teams
  • Work with Industry Groups on bespoke thought leadership to maximize Bennett Jones investments in major conferences and sponsorships
  • Establish relationships with internal and external industry data providers. Work with diverse data sources to identify, analyze and synthesize market data into clear, actionable business intelligence and strategic content
  • Identify and develop thought leadership and programming/agenda topics to execute for event sponsorship opportunities
  • Support in the delivery of speaking notes for lawyers' speaking engagements

Media Relations

  • Engage in proactive strategic media outreach to generate interest in firm thought leadership and people, and earn coverage in national and international legal, industry and mainstream media
  • Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with reporters and editors in relevant media
  • Provide support on interview preparation for lawyers and other spokespeople

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, public relations, copywriting or related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in relevant industries and job functions and demonstrated experience providing expert guidance and drafting support for critical organizational communications initiatives. Experience in legal industry or professional services an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of business and legal trends, with the ability to work with original source market data and translate it into clear, actionable insights and content
  • Executive-level drafting and communications skills, with an emphasis on efficiency and brevity
  • Entrepreneurial, creative and proactive and able to take spearhead initiatives to advance business priority driven thought leadership and content
  • Strong business acumen, interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, including excellent relationship management abilities, diplomacy, flexibility and patience
  • Strong senior-level track record of producing and delivering business-driven thought leadership in a professional services or corporate environment that delivers value and results
  • Excellent project management skills, attention to detail and creative and strategic thinking
  • Ability to use artificial intelligence tools to create, accelerate and enhance content and thought leadership initiatives
  • Proficient in MS office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strategic, collaborative mindset and a positive attitude with a proven ability to work effectively across teams, practices and markets
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team, and with people from diverse backgrounds and competing needs and priorities
  • Serve as a model of the firm's brand and culture

Additional Details:

  • Compensation:$121,000 - $150,000 per annum
