Michael Smith has joined Bennett Jones as a partner in the Toronto office. He provides clients in all industries with innovative, business-oriented solutions to manage risk and deal with crisis. His practice includes class actions, product liability, recalls and commercial litigation. He has advised on some of the largest and most difficult global business challenges in recent years.

Previously, Michael was counsel at General Motors of Canada Company (GM) where he advised on litigation, regulatory and business matters. This included issues such as class actions, dealer/franchisee disputes, commercial litigation, product liability and warranty claims, autonomous and connected vehicles, vehicle sharing, eBikes, vehicle safety and emissions investigations and compliance, consumer product safety, recalls, and more.

Prior to his role at GM, Michael built a broad and thriving litigation practice as a partner at a national law firm. He was Benchmark Litigation’s Product Liability Litigator of the Year in 2016. He has repeatedly been honoured and ranked by Benchmark, Lexpert and Best Lawyers.
