Bennett Jones has once again been ranked as Highly Recommended in Global Competition Review’s 2021 edition of the GCR 100, a comprehensive listing of the world’s top competition practices. The guide provides a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the law firms doing the most important antitrust work around the world and this year firms in 56 jurisdictions are featured. GCR says:

Randal Hughes and former competition commissioner Melanie Aitken co-head the competition practice at Bennett Jones, which is made up of seven partners and four associates. Former associate Kyle Donnelly was promoted to the partnership in March 2020.

Partners Aitken, Adam Kalbfleisch and Kyle Donnelly represented Bristol Myers Squibb in its €66.3 billion merger with Celgene, which the Bureau conditionally cleared subject to the divestment of one of Celgene's products following an in-depth review. The firm successfully defended Brewers Retail in a €896.2 million class action before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice against allegations the retailer, its shareholder brewers and the Liquor Control Board of Ontario allocated the market for the sale of beer. In 2019, the Ontario Court of Appeal upheld the dismissal of the proposed class action.
