John Mercury talks with Law.Com about how Bennett Jones is further strengthening the firm’s top-tier energy, mining and M&A practices with the hiring of Ben Rogers, Leanne Krawchuk and Dean Koumanakos. These practice areas, as well as infrastructure, have experienced high demand and align with opportunities in the Canadian economy.

“Energy, mining, infrastructure, we're in the DNA of those businesses, and these hires are reflective of that," John says. “We’re doubling down on our strengths and the things we do best, which is complex, inbound M&A, energy, mining, infrastructure. It just so happens to coincide with what is very much in demand in Canada and by our clients, both domestic and internationally.”

Today, the world is looking for infrastructure assets. That's what global investors want, and Canada has those aplenty, John says.

“These are big tickets. They're big dollars. They're big opportunities for Canada and our standard of living and our people, and frankly, we need to be able to develop these large-scale projects in partnership with First Nations wherever we can, and show the world that we can actually get things done.”
