Ben advises energy companies on complex commercial matters across Canada, the United States and internationally, helping clients structure and execute transactions, manage risk and advance projects with confidence. His practice spans an array of energy related business areas, including asset acquisitions and divestitures, mergers and joint ventures, transportation and processing arrangements, project development and the legal oversight of day-to-day operational and commercial matters as well as the structuring and placement of investments into the Canadian energy sector by US and other non-Canadian clients, both strategic and financial.
With deep expertise in both conventional and non-conventional oil and gas development, as well as East Coast offshore projects, he helps clients anticipate challenges and implement practical, commercially grounded solutions. His approach is solutions-oriented, informed by extensive experience across the energy sector, and tailored to align with each client’s strategic objectives. Prior to joining Bennett Jones, Ben was a partner at another national business law firm, where he co-led the energy (oil & gas) group.
Ben’s work is consistently recognized by leading international legal directories, including Chambers Global, Chambers Canada, Lexpert Special Edition for Energy and The Legal 500 Canada for Energy: Oil and Gas.
He has close relationships within the Canadian and US energy legal communities and is past president and director of the Canadian Energy Law Foundation, where he has been an active member of the organizing committee for the organization's annual Jasper seminar.
