Linda Misetich Dann comments in Lexpert on challenges Canadian mining companies can face with a resurgence of resource nationalism in emerging-market countries. She says that, “Mining companies are easy targets because mining projects are so incredibly capital intensive that governments realize they are there for the long term.” She also points out that resource nationalism can be in the form of higher electricity costs only for miners, increased taxes, royalties, import-export restrictions or redefining a country’s mining laws.
