Dan Steiner

Dan advises companies, private equity funds, family offices and pension plans on complex domestic and cross-border transactions, helping clients structure and execute mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and the formation and financing of business ventures in a way that advances strategic objectives and manages risk. His practice spans a broad range of corporate law matters across industries including infrastructure, technology, manufacturing, resources, entertainment, hospitality, food and transportation.

Known for his efficient and pragmatic approach to deal-making, Dan brings strong negotiating skills and deep experience advising on sophisticated transactions. Working closely with clients, he helps navigate complexity, balance commercial considerations and deliver practical solutions in high-stakes matters.

Prior to joining Bennett Jones, Dan was a partner in the business group of an international law firm and head of its Vancouver mergers and acquisitions team. He also previously practised in the M&A group of a leading US law firm in its New York head office.

His work has included award-winning mandates and is consistently recognized by leading legal directories. Dan is ranked by Chambers Canada for corporate/commercial matters, Lexpert for mergers and acquisitions and private equity, and Best Lawyers for corporate governance and leveraged buyouts. In 2026, Chambers Canada wrote “Dan is seasoned and provides sound perspective. He's an excellent right hand” and “navigates matters practically.”

Dan has served on several boards, including the Board of Governors of the Business Council of British Columbia, the Vancouver Opera board, McGill University’s Advisory Board and several other not-for-profit organizations. Dan has been a member of the American Bar Association’s Canadian Private Target M&A Deal Points Study Working Group since 2016.
