Akash Purewal has a general corporate and commercial practice with a focus on emerging enterprises, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions and private equity. His corporate practice includes advising on private M&A transactions, private equity investments and mining projects, as well as a broad range of commercial transactions across various industries, including, oil and gas, food and beverage, technology and software, agribusiness and life sciences.
Akash routinely works with startups and emerging enterprises, advising on early-stage formation and structuring, and supporting companies as they grow and enter into financing and funding stages, including through the use of SAFEs and other investment instruments.
Akash also has significant experience advising on intellectual property matters in a commercial context, including the commercialization and licensing of IP, and providing IP strategy and support in complex technology transactions. He regularly works with innovation-focused organizations, including the NRC IRAP IP-Assist Program, Alberta Innovates and ElevateIP, and is an approved service provider supporting startups navigating intellectual property and corporate matters.
Akash also advises clients with ongoing corporate and governance issues that arise in businesses and non-profit organizations. This comprises the process of incorporating and governing for-profit and non-profit entities, including corporations, societies and not-for-profit companies.
As an active member of the community, Akash currently serves as a Board Director for Events Edmonton, the host organization of the Taste of Edmonton festival. He is also a Board Director for the GBS/CIDP Foundation of Canada. Akash is an avid volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada and dedicates time coaching business students in entrepreneurship at the Alberta School of Business.
