Artem Barsukov is a leading Swedish and Russian speaking lawyer specializing in global and domestic arbitration matters. With more than a decade of experience in international dispute resolution and advanced training from leading global arbitration institutions, Artem serves as both an advocate and an arbitrator, helping clients efficiently navigate and resolve their most complex legal disputes.

Artem is one of very few true arbitration specialists in Canada. Having practiced arbitration throughout his career, he has successfully represented clients worldwide in complex international and domestic arbitrations collectively worth over two billion dollars. Artem has acted as arbitration counsel under leading international arbitration systems, including ICC, LCIA, and UNCITRAL, and appeared before the world’s top arbitrators in Doha (Qatar), London, and Mexico City.

Artem’s arbitration clients specifically seek him out for his in-depth knowledge of, and recognized expertise with, complex construction disputes. Over 11+ years of practice as arbitration counsel, Artem has acted for owners, contractors, and subcontractors in a wide variety of arbitrations arising from large-scale construction projects. Clients particularly value Artem’s ability to distill complex technical issues into persuasive written and oral submissions.

In 2023, Artem expanded his arbitration credentials further, by completing the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce / Swedish Arbitration Association Diploma Course for Foreign Arbitrators in Sweden. Artem also serves on the ICC Canada Arbitrator Nominations Commission and is listed on the roster of arbitrators of the Vancouver International Arbitration Centre (VanIAC). These credentials enable Artem to act as an effective third-party neutral on a wide variety of disputes.

Complementing his arbitration practice, Artem is also one of very few lawyers in Canada specializing in regulatory aspects of Canadian Aviation Law, with a particular focus on the Canadian ownership and control requirement. Artem’s comprehensive knowledge of the law and first-rate advocacy skills have enabled him to achieve successful outcomes in high-stakes regulatory proceedings, preserving thousands of Canadian jobs and saving millions of dollars to the flying public.

Consistent with the global focus of his practice, Artem embraces leadership positions within Canada’s European business community.
