Bennett Jones is profoundly saddened by the sudden passing of our partner, colleague, and friend, Luke Morrison, as a result of a cerebral aneurysm.
Above all else, Luke was devoted to his family. He was a loving and admiring husband to Kathryn Farrell and an immensely proud father to Jack, both of whom he cherished deeply. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Kathryn, Jack, and all of Luke's family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Luke was also a beloved member of the Bennett Jones family and a highly respected lawyer, leader, mentor, and colleague. His passing is an immense shock and loss for our Firm.
A leading commercial energy lawyer in Canada, Luke was widely recognized for his exceptional legal expertise, strategic judgment, and unwavering commitment to clients. Recently recognized as a Next Generation Partner by The Legal 500 and one of LEXPERT'S leading lawyers under 40, and ranked by Lexpert and Chambers among Canada's leading energy and M&A lawyers, Luke played a central role in many of the most significant transactions in the Canadian energy sector.
Luke graduated from the University of Alberta with a BA (Honours) in Political Science and an LLB and was called to the Alberta Bar in 2009. He joined Bennett Jones at the outset of his legal career and spent more than 18 years with the Firm. He became a partner in 2018 and was recently appointed Practice Group Leader of our Energy Practice Group. Throughout his career, Luke earned the trust and admiration of clients and colleagues alike through his intellect, professionalism, and generosity.
His contributions extended well beyond his practice. Luke served as Chair of the Bennett Jones Student Recruitment Committee in Calgary and was committed to mentoring the next generation of lawyers. He was an active leader in the legal and energy communities, serving on the Governance Committee of the Canadian Energy Law Foundation, and as Chair of The Educational Partnership Foundation, a charity dedicated to supporting literacy, trades training, and educational opportunities for youth across Canada, including Indigenous and remote communities.
Luke will be fondly remembered for his kindness, integrity, warmth, and ability to bring people together. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. His legacy will forever be a part of Bennett Jones.
