David McKinnon's litigation practice focuses on the resolution of complex commercial, energy, shareholder, franchise, and intellectual property disputes.
David regularly appears as counsel before all levels of courts in Alberta, and in international and domestic arbitration proceedings held under the auspices of the American Arbitration Association, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution, and the Canadian Arbitration Association.
He also acts in aviation matters, and represents medical professionals sued for malpractice or facing professional disciplinary proceedings. He has been an invited speaker by the Canadian Bar Association Health Law Section, the Canadian Medical Protective Association, and the University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine.
David is a member of the firm's Kickstart, a liaison with the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) Calgary, and is an active volunteer in the community serving as chair of the governance committee of EducationMatters, and on the auction committee of UNICEF Water for Life.

- Acted for various energy industry companies in defending multi-million dollar copyright claims over use of seismic data (including 2016 ABQB 356 and 2016 ABQB 230)
