David Macaulay, co-head of the firm's power and renewable energy practice group, represents clients in the energy sector, both domestically and internationally.
He has significant experience in the development of commercial energy projects, with an emphasis on structuring power projects (both renewables and non-renewables), pipeline and mining joint ventures, and oil and gas projects as well as the acquisition and divestiture of significant energy infrastructure assets in various jurisdictions in Canada, the UK, Australia, Mexico and South America.
His power experience includes natural gas, coal, hydro, tidal, wind, biomass, solar and battery storage projects.
David's major domestic energy project experience includes the Mackenzie Valley Pipeline and the Terra Nova and Sable Island offshore projects.
David brings to the commercial projects work expertise in financing including experience with project financing, conventional debt, private equity, and commodity and other hedging and risk management arrangements and transactions in assessing and mitigating risks in commercial energy projects which is critical in various project structures.
David is recognized as a leading energy lawyer by various well-known legal publishers including Chambers Global, Chambers Canada, The Legal 500 and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.
He serves as a director of a number of private corporations, was the past chairman of the board and a long-term board member for Lindsay Park Sports Society, which operates the Repsol Talisman Centre for Sport and Wellness, and is involved in the Scholars Academy Mentorship Program with the University of Calgary.
