On December 2, 2016, the Law Society of Upper Canada approved the Challenges Faced by Racialized Licensees Working Group’s final report, with 13 recommendations to address issues of systemic racism in the legal professions. Barbara Murchie, Bencher, and Ranjan Agarwal, past president of the South Asian Bar Association of Toronto, will discuss:

  • The need for change articulated in the Working Group's consultation paper and report
  • The areas of action approved by the Law Society
  • What lawyers and law firms can expect as a result of the report
  • The Statement of Principles—what is it and why it’s mandatory
