Michael Whitt, partner in Bennett Jones' Calgary office, has been selected as a member of the Sedona Conference Working Group 11's Drafting Team to prepare a Cyber Incident Response Guide. He is the only member from a Canadian law firm on the Team. ?Michael is leader of Bennett Jones' Information Technology practice group and a senior member of the Intellectual Property practic?e.
Working Group 11 on Data Security and Privacy Liability is Sedona's newest working group. Its mission is to identify and comment on trends in data security and privacy law, in an effort to help organizations prepare for and respond to data breaches, and to assist attorneys and judicial officers in resolving questions of legal liability and damages.
Michael is also a member of the Sedona Conference Working Group 7 (Sedona Canada), which created the Sedona Canada Principles for the benefit of lawyers, courts, businesses and others who regularly confront e-discovery issues in Canada.
The Sedona Conference is a nonprofit research and educational institute dedicated to the advanced study of law and policy in the areas of antitrust law, complex litigation, and intellectual property rights. It brings together the brightest minds with a mission of driving the reasoned and just advancement of law and policy by stimulating ongoing dialogue amongst leaders of the bench and bar to achieve consensus on tipping point issues.
The Working Group Series was established to pursue in-depth study of tipping point issues in the areas of antitrust law, complex litigation, and intellectual property rights. The goal is to produce high-quality, non-partisan commentary and guidance of immediate, practical benefit to the bench and bar.
