Honoured on National Philanthropy Day
Bennett Jones was nominated by the Zebra Child Protection Centre. The Zebra Centre works with its partners towards the common goals of supporting children who have experienced abuse and creating a future where every child is heard. Bennett Jones has hosted the annual Restoring Hope Breakfast since 2009, raising more than $320,000 for the Zebra Centre. The Breakfast is a gathering of community leaders and business professionals and funds raised go to trauma therapy resources for children and youth.“Nearly 50 per cent of our funding comes from community fundraisers like the Bennett Jones Restoring Hope Breakfast,” says Bob Hassel, CEO, Zebra Child Protection Centre. “Not only does Bennett Jones raise valuable funds for our Centre, they are true allies to the children and youth in our community. We couldn’t continue to advocate for the most vulnerable members of society if it wasn’t for this support.”
National Philanthropy Day is an annual awards event that honours and recognizes those who contribute their time, talents, financial support and other resources to Edmonton’s philanthropic organizations. The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Edmonton & Area Chapter advances philanthropy by enabling people and organizations to practice effective and ethical fundraising.
Bennett Jones' Edmonton partner Rose M. Carter, Q.C. accepted the award on behalf of the firm. She says, "I wish there was no need for a centre such as the Zebra Centre, and it is heartbreaking to have to acknowledge, on a daily basis, that such an organization is needed because our children are not treated the way they deserve to be. Every child deserves to be loved, cherished and protected. It is wonderful that these children and those that care about them have the Zebra Centre to turn to in their terrible hour of need. I am confident in saying that those who support our annual breakfast share my view."
