Ian Michael's practice is focused on corporate and securities law with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions involving public companies and private equity investments, corporate finance, and infrastructure consortia. He has worked extensively with Chinese companies doing business in Canada and Canadian companies doing business in China. He works with businesses and private equity investors in a range of industries including aviation, real estate, biosciences, and financial services.
Ian recently completed a three year term as a member of the Securities Advisory Committee of the Ontario Securities Commission (SAC). SAC provides advice to the Commission on a variety of matters including legislative and policy initiatives and important capital markets trends. In 2006, he completed an eight-month secondment to the Mergers & Acquisitions Team of the Corporate Finance Branch at the OSC.
Ian has taught mergers & acquisitions for the advanced securities law program at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Windsor. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the St. Andrew's College Foundation.
