The Outlook reviews the global economic context and the evolution of key economic and policy parameters for business planning. Following an analysis of the early impact of the COVID-19 crisis, the presentation describes scenarios for the global and Canadian economies over the next 18 months. It assesses the trade policy environment, and then lays out a path, including policy steps, for the reopening, recovery and rebuilding of the Canadian economy. To draw the short-term and longer-term implications of an unprecedented crisis, the Outlook connects the dots among such factors as:
- the global economic and geo-strategic context;
- the intervention of central banks and governments and their impacts on the macroeconomy; and
- the changes in the structure of the economy and the necessary responses of governments and businesses.
