Martin Kratz leads the anti-spam practice and co-leads the ecommerce practice for Bennett Jones and has lead the intellectual property and technology practices.. His practice is focused in intellectual property and technology law, which includes substantive patent, copyright and trademark matters as well as matters of intellectual property transactions, IP commercialization, IP strategy and opinions, anti-spam, data protection, privacy, ecommerce, strategic alliances, mergers, acquisitions and technology transfers among technology companies. His practice is focused on the energy, electronic commerce, new media, software, telecommunications, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, entertainment and related industries.

Martin is national co-director of Osgoode Hall Law School's Intellectual Property LLM program. Teaching or having taught courses in Intellectual Property Law, Biotechnology Law and Internet Law at several law schools, Martin is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Osgoode Hall Law School (Toronto) and at Concordia University College (Edmonton). At Osgoode Hall Law School (York University) Martin teaches, as lead national instructor, Intellectual Property Transactions and co-teaches Intellectual Property Theoretical Frameworks for the Intellectual Property LLM Program. He also teaches Intellectual Property Law for the Business Law LLM Program.

Among other memberships, Martin is a member of the American Bar Association's Science & Technology, Patent, Copyright & Trademark, Sports & Entertainment and International Sections, a member of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, a Fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, and a Fellow of the Canadian Information Processing Society.

Harvest One Cannabis, in its $70 million listing on the TSX Venture Exchange and concurrent $25 million financing led by Mackie Research Capital.
Fuzhou Bonded Zone Hejili Equity Investment Limited Partnership, in its US$21 million equity investment in Hydrogenics Corporation by private placement. 
Martin Kratz and Steve Major recently acted for a large financial institution in addressing a cyber-attack.  Both Kratz and Major participated as members of the incident response team and worked closely with the senior management of the client to identify the risks, review remedial action taken, understand the client's reporting and notification responsibilities, to engage specialized IT, forensic, public relations and other resources and to craft notifications for different classes of individuals potentially affected by the breach and to address and help mitigate potential liability associated with the incident.
TriWest Capital Partners, one of Canada's leading private equity firms, in the acquisition of Prostar Well Service Inc. and Prostar Manufacturing Inc. (formerly Rangeland Drilling Automation Inc.)
Statoil Canada Ltd., in acquisition by PTTEP Canada Limited of the remaining 60% ownership interest in the Thornbury, Hangingstone and South Leismer oil sands areas in exchange for Statoil's 40% stake in the Leismer and Corner projects and approximately US$200 million in cash.
Omstead Foods Limited, in the divestment of its frozen vegetable and coated appetizer division to Bonduelle SA and its frozen fruit division to Silver Valley Farms.
Catch the Wind, Inc., in its $15 million private placement of subscription receipts and subsequent reverse takeover of a capital pool company listed on the TSX Venture Exchange.

Cadbury Trebor Allan Inc., in its acquisition of Adams from the global confectionary and manufacturing division of Pfizer Inc. for US$4.2 billion.
Jaws Technology, in its acquisition of Offsite Data Services Limited.
Novopharm, with the Federal Court judgment in favour of Novopharm against Pfizer. Novopharm was seeking to market a generic version of CELEBREX.  Novopharm's allegation that Searle's patent was invalid was held to be justified.  G.D. Searle & Co. v. Novopharm Limited, 2007 FCA 173
Oncolytics Biotech Inc., in setting up clinical trial programs in the United Kingdom for the systematic delivery of reovirus as an oncolytic agent and for the testing of various reovirus in combination with radiotherapy.
Paradigm Software, in an infringement action, which utilized an Anton Pillar-style injunction application, against a software company that was selling copyright-infringing software, based on Paradigm's system.
The Banff Television Festival Foundation, with its restructuring involving incorporating a new foundation and obtained a court ordered transfer of assets and goodwill permitting the 2004 Banff Television Festival to proceed. This transaction included the licensing of various intellectual property assets to a third party white knight to ensure this 25 year Alberta institution could continue forward with its goals.
TSX Group, in the acquisition of NGX Canada Inc. from OMHEX for approximately $38 million.
VoodooVox Inc., in the establishment of commercial arrangements with Yellow Pages Group for the commercial deployment of Call Genie's Enhanced Voice Directory Service.
Call Genie Inc., in the protection of their enhanced voice directory search system and technology.
Centrica plc, a leading provider of energy and essential services in the U.K. under AA and British Gas brands, in its $1 billion acquisition of Enbridge Services Inc., which more than doubled the customer base of Centrica's Canadian business.
