Coby Schneider practices in the area of intellectual property law. In addition to being a lawyer, she is a registered trademark agent in Canada. Coby assists Canadian and international clients with patents and patent strategy, trademarks and trademark prosecution and protection, copyright, branding and licensing agreements. She is also experienced at advising emerging start-ups and growth-stage companies with intellectual property strategy. As a registered trademark agent, she regularly deals with issues concerning the registration, protection, prosecution and licensing of trademarks in Canada and around the world.
Coby acts for clients from various industries including: food and beverage, hospitality, luxury goods, software, import/export and service industries such as interior design, architecture and accounting.
Coby has partnered with the Canadian Trade Commission Service and the Canadian Consulate General to create and participate in a series of national boot camps aimed at growing the next generation of high-technology companies in Canada as well as participating in Accelerator programs in the Silicon Valley.
Coby has taught legal courses at the University of Calgary, in the Law School and the Faculty of Engineering, at Osgoode Hall in Toronto, in the Law and MBA programs at UC Berkeley and also taught law for many years at Seneca College in Toronto. A frequent speaker, she informs inventors, industry trade groups, educational and professional groups on trademarks, IP strategy, branding and other issues commonly associated with intellectual property.
She is a fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Calgary Bar Association, and serves on the Round-table Committee for Canada for the International Trade-Mark Association.
Prior to joining Bennett Jones, Coby was an associate with a boutique patent and trademark law firm in Calgary and a large national law firm.
