Barry Reiter is a business lawyer, whose practice is focused on corporate development and governance.
As Chair of the Technology, Media & Entertainment Group, Barry's represents start-up, growth and mature companies in these sectors, and related private equity sources on: corporate and other business structuring; public and private financings; the protection and commercialization of intellectual property rights; licensing and other distribution arrangements; strategic alliances, partnerships and joint ventures; IPOs and stock exchange listings; mergers and acquisitions; and restructurings.
As leader of the Corporate Governance and Director Protection practice, Barry regularly advises boards, directors and management teams on governance, director protection (directors' duties, indemnification and insurance) and risk management (including financial, operating business, and cyber risk and risk transfer) issues. He is an experienced director and has chaired boards and various board committees for public and private companies. Current board roles include: Baylin Wireless Technologies (Lead Director), NexgenRx Inc., HUB International (Advisory Board), StarTech.com (Advisory Council) and RIMES Technologies Corporation.
Formerly a law professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto (1974-1982), Barry has written extensively on contracts, corporate governance, advisory boards and joint ventures. He is lead author of Directors' Duties in Canada, 6th Edition, to be published by LexisNexis in early 2016, and co-author of Joint Ventures: Legal and Business Perspectives, published by Irwin Law in 1999. Peer recognitions include his selection by Lexpert magazine as one of Canada's 100 Most Creative Lawyers.
