The Lawyer's Daily reports on Ranjan Agarwal beginning his role as second vice president of the Ontario Bar Association (OBA) on September 1, 2020. Ranjan will become president of the OBA in 2022, making him the first lawyer of South Asian descent to lead the Association, which was founded in 1907.
Ranjan says there’s no doubt that representation matters, and at the same time, his election reflects the recognition in the profession and Canadian society at large that it’s character, and not colour, that matters.
Ranjan also says that while the OBA plays an outsized leadership role as a pillar of the justice system, it’s a member-driven organization and OBA leaders need to constantly be listening to what members are saying about what they need and continually be responsive.
