Preaching to the Choir

Acclaimed Trade Lawyer Launches Handbook on Trade with Canada

ATLANTA, March 16, 2012 - Darrel Pearson leads the choir in singing the American National Anthem at the International Compliance Professionals Association conference just as he leads the field in demystifying customs, compliance and trade with Canada.

One might think the World's two largest trading partners would have it all figured out. With just under 600 Billion dollars worth of goods passing between the countries every year it is surprising to learn that many still harbour fear and uncertainty about the process.

Starting this spring, thanks to Pearson, a senior Trade Lawyer at Canadian law firm, Bennett Jones, things will get a lot less scary and a lot clearer when doing business with Canada.

Titled: Bennett Jones Handbook of Canadian Customs Compliance, it is intended to provide the reader with an overview of legal and administrative issues addressed daily by customs compliance professionals.

"While Canada lives in a global environment, it is a separate sovereign country with different rules relating to import and export customs compliance", says Pearson. "There is no resource like this as far as we know", he adds.

The Handbook focuses exclusively on Canadian customs compliance issues and contains material dealing with the regulation of imports into, and exports from, Canada.

When asked whether it covers every jurisdiction, Pearson notes, "The Handbook covers all imports and exports into and out of Canada, regardless of source or destination."

The Handbook is not intended to be legal advice or a substitute for legal advice. The compliance professional who utilizes this Handbook should consult specialized Canadian legal advisors, such as the authors, should questions arise from a review of the contents of this Handbook, and/or to ensure the professional is equipped with the most up to date information available.
