Jana Prete advises clients on corporate commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and energy-related matters, including conventional and non-conventional oil and gas, electricity, wind and coal.

Working for national and international clients alike, Jana negotiates and drafts asset and share purchase and sale agreements, joint venture agreements, project agreements, and other industry-specific agreements. She also assists clients with general corporate/commercial matters and preparing documentation for complex internal reorganizations.

Jana is active in the Canadian Energy Law Foundation and has presented on a number of occasions to the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen.

Prior to joining Bennett Jones, Jana practised in the Calgary office of another national law firm. While there, she was co-chair of the firm's Calgary Student Committee.

Jana was also named as a corporate lawyer to watch in the 2015 Lexpert's Guide to the Leading U.S./Canada Cross-Border Corporate Lawyers in Canada.

  • Paramount Resources Ltd., in connection with the sale of its sour gas processing assets in north western Alberta to Pembina Gas Services Limited Partnership, for approximately $600 Million in cash and other considerations. Read more
  • KUFPEC Canada Inc. on its proposed acquisition of Chevron Canada Limited's 30 percent interest in its Duvernay shale play for US$1.5-billion*
  • ENMAX Corporation on its purchase from Encana Corporation of the 115 MW, natural-gas-fired, Cavalier electricity generation facility and of Encana's 50 percent interest in the 110 MW, natural-gas-fired, Balzac electricity generation facility; its joint venture with Capital Power relating to Genesee 4 and Genesee 5, 1050 MW, natural-gas-fired, electricity generation facilities to be developed near Warburg, Alberta, including for project development, construction, site leasing and shared facility services; and on Capital Power's acquisition of a 50 percent interest in, and joint venture in respect of, the $1.4-billion Shepard Energy Centre, an 800 MW, natural-gas-fired power generation project located in Calgary, Alberta*
