Romeo Rojas's practice is focused on domestic and international commercial arbitration and investor-state arbitration.
Romeo represents companies in complex commercial disputes in a wide range of sectors. He acts as counsel in ad hoc domestic and international arbitrations, as well as arbitrations under various international and domestic arbitration rules, such as the UNCITRAL, ICC and LCIA rules. He also represents sovereign states and multinational companies in investor-state disputes under investment treaties.
Before joining Bennett Jones, Romeo served for seven years as a Trade Commissioner with the Government of Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT), where his assignments included postings to the United Arab Emirates and articling with DFAIT’s Trade Law Bureau. Most recently, Romeo practiced for nine years with a leading Calgary law firm.
Romeo is a member of the International Bar Association and the ICC Canada Arbitration Committee, an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and on the advisory board of the Young Canadian Arbitration Practitioners organization. He is also on the International Center for Dispute Resolution’s roster of arbitrators for proceedings under the Canadian Expedited Rules and International Expedited Rules. Romeo regularly publishes and speaks on commercial and investor-state arbitration topics.
