Dayo Ogunyemi has a general corporate commercial law practice. He brings several years of experience in Canadian and international law to this role and specializes in commercial transactions, energy, environmental law, power and renewables and ESG.

Prior to articling with Bennett Jones, Dayo practiced law in Lagos, Nigeria, for several years at top-tier law firms. He has provided legal advisory services to governments and corporations on energy and natural resources-related projects. Dayo was the John Ballem Fellow in Energy Law at the Canadian Institute of Resources Law (CIRL) and has made significant contributions to the fields of energy and environmental law through academic publications, including the editorial work on the CIRL publication entitled Environment in the Courtroom Vol. 2. Dayo demonstrates a powerful combination of proven legal expertise and the capacity to provide clients with practical, business-oriented legal advice.

Dayo is devoted to advocacy and is a leader in the internationally trained lawyers’ community. He is the President of Global Lawyers of Canada and a former director of the Internationally Trained Lawyers’ Network, Canada. He is also a co-founder of the African Scholars Initiative, a Canadian charitable organization that provides mentorship to bright scholars of African descent.

Dayo is also a talented musician. He plays 17 musical instruments, including the piano, guitar, saxophone and drums.
