John Craig focuses primarily on resolving national and international construction disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration and litigation.

John also assists international and domestic owners, contractors and engineers with the review, negotiation and drafting of construction contracts, tender documents, project specific E&O, builders' risk course of construction and liability insurance, and performance, bid and labour and materials bonds. He has also practices extensively in the areas of builders' liens.

Active as a volunteer, John is a former director of the Alberta Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association and of the Arthritis Society. He has also been actively involved in leadership positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Acted for and continuing to act for, international national energy companies in drafting multimillion dollar EPCM and Works construction contracts for multibillion dollar projects.
Acted for and continuing to act for, international and national energy companies in disputes regarding cost over-runs and schedule delays in multibillion dollar projects.
Acted for a contractor in review and drafting of standard construction agreements.
Acted for the defendant (owner), in a $1 billion and subsequently $110 million dispute regarding marketing of gas and the construction and rework of a gas processing plant.
Acted for an international owner, in a $250-million insurance claim under its course of construction policy.
Acted for an international owner, in a $150-million delay claim in construction of an aluminum facility.
Acted for an international contractor, in a multimillion dollar claim against joint venture engineering partner.
Acted for an international terminal owner, in a multimillion dollar dispute over extras and delays.
Acted for the plaintiff, an international energy owner, in a $92 million dispute (17 separate actions), regarding the engineering and construction of a multibillion dollar oil sands mine and upgrader. The matter was ultimately resolved through mediation.
Acted for the defendant, an international energy owner, in a multimillion dollar dispute regarding site preparation work at an oil sands mine.
Acted for the plaintiff, an owner, in a multimillion dollar dispute relating to poor soil conditions encountered in the construction of an office tower. Involved in the initial judicial mediation and subsequent trial.
Acted for the defendant, a contractor in a dispute with a gravel crushing subcontractor.
Acted for the plaintiff, a contractor involved in a dispute regarding the construction of an irrigation canal.
Acted for the defendant, a contractor in a dispute (and subsequent arbitration), regarding reclamation of top soil.
Conducted multiple reviews of insurance provisions for contractors.
Acted for a contractor in a dispute, (and subsequent arbitration), with a supplier of equipment to a power plant.
Acted for a supplier of equipment to a refinery in a dispute over payment (subsequently resolved through international arbitration).
Acted for an owner (in an arbitration), in a dispute with a civil works contractor over the construction of a power facility.
Acted for a contractor in a tender dispute with a roofing subcontractor.
Acted for a contractor in negotiating and drafting a construction contract for the construction of a health services facility.
Acted for a contractor in a dispute regarding the construction of a church.
Acted for a contractor in a dispute with an electrical subcontractor over termination.
Acted for a contractor in a dispute with an owner over the construction of a condominium project.
Acted for a contractor in assisting in the licensing of a California construction subsidiary.
Acted for a contractor in reviewing and negotiating a construction contract for major renovations to a hotel.
Acted for a road builder in a dispute (and subsequent mediation) with Alberta Infrastructure over the construction of a highway.
Acted for an engineer in a dispute with an owner of a pipeline and related facilities.
Acted for an owner in a dispute regarding the construction of a multi-million dollar grain elevator.
Acted for an owner in preparation of contracts and negotiation of multimillion dollar oil and gas facilities.
Acted for an owner in preparation of contracts and negotiations of multibillion dollar electrical facilities.
Acted for an owner in preparation of contracts and negotiation of multibillion dollar potash mine and facilities.
Acted for an owner in the construction of a recreational property facility.
Acted for the owner in a dispute with a drilling contractor over the construction of multi-million dollar drilling rigs.
Acting for a large oil and gas company (in a multimillion dollar arbitration), regarding a right of first refusal and relating to accounting interests and other issues in Kazakhstan oil and gas fields.
