Valerie Calvano has a general commercial litigation and construction practice, with a particular focus on construction disputes, construction liens and procurement law. Valerie has acted on behalf of owners, contractors, subcontractors and surety bonding companies in disputes arising out of various types of construction projects, including public infrastructure projects. Valerie has regularly acted on behalf of clients before various Courts and tribunals, as well as in arbitrations and adjudications.
Valerie earned her JD from the University of Ottawa in 2017. During her law school, she assisted at the University of Ottawa’s business and tax law legal aid clinic. Having completed her JD in French and English, Valerie is also able to practice law in both French and English.
Prior to joining Bennett Jones, Valerie practiced law at the Toronto office of a national law firm where she had an active Construction and Infrastructure practice. Valerie has also previously worked for large international engineer consultancy firms, where she provided strategic legal advice to their Canadian businesses. Her experience as corporate counsel offers a unique perspective to providing client services.
In her free time, Valerie enjoys playing competitive sports, running and biking, and skiing in the mountains.
