Ron Barron, co-head of the Firm’s commercial real estate practice group, acts on a variety of real estate transactions and financings, land development matters, private equity and other corporate and commercial transactions. Ron has particular experience in structuring various real property investment vehicles in a wide range of industry sectors, including for capital projects and facilities, through partnerships, REITs, joint ventures and other arrangements.

In addition to his practice, Ron has participated in various seminars relating to real property, lending and lease transactions.

Ron is active in the community for a variety of causes and does legal and volunteer work for the Calgary Jewish Federation.

Recent Experience

North West Redwater Partnership, in its $3.5-billion credit facility and $1.0-billion bond offering, the proceeds of which will contribute to the funding of the construction of North West's $8+ billion bitumen refinery in the Alberta Heartland. The project is supported by 30-year tolling commitments of the Government of Alberta and Canadian Natural.
RTL-Westcan Limited Partnership, a leading hauler of bulk commodities in Western and Northern Canada, in the sale of its operating business to Kenan Advantage Group and its industrial properties to Edgefront Realty Corp. The ownership group of RTL-Westcan included TriWest Capital Partners, one of Canada's leading private equity firms, members of the RTL-Westcan senior management team and others.
Northern Frontier Corp., a TSX Venture Exchange listed capital pool corporation, in the completion of its previously announced acquisition of the NEC Group and certain assets used in the operation of the NEC Group's business.
Niagara Acquisition LP (a joint venture between KingSett Real Estate Growth LP No. 3 and AimCo), in the sale to Dundee Industrial Limited Partnership of a number of properties (comprising a portion of the ING Portfolio) for a sale price of $503.3 million.
KingSett Canadian Real Estate Income Fund LP, in its $312-million acquisition with Canadian Real Estate Investment Trust of the office complex known as Calgary Place, each as to a 50 percent co-ownership interest.
Killam Properties Inc., in a short form prospectus offering for approximately $50 million.
Killam Properties Inc., in the completion an offering of 4,255,000 common shares at a price of $5.80 per common share for aggregate gross proceeds of $24,679,000.  The Offering was underwritten by a syndicate of underwriters led by RBC Capital Markets.
Killam Properties Inc., in a short form prospectus offering of 5.8-million common shares for gross proceeds of approximately $60 million.
Killam Properties Inc., in a private placement of common shares on a bought deal basis by RBC Capital Markets for proceeds of approximately $40 million.
Killam Properties Inc., in the private placement of $10 million of convertible subordinated debentures.
Killam Properties Inc., in a $57.5-million private placement of convertible unsecured subordinated debentures due 2012 and common shares.
Pacrim Developments Inc., in the sale of the Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire, for $65 million to Legacy Hotels Real Estate Investment Trust.
