Wesley Novotny, Partner at Bennett Jones, chaired a panel of tax and corporate lawyers at the 2025 Employee Ownership Conference on September 12, 2025 in Calgary Alberta discussing the Tax and Legal Considerations for Employee Ownership.

This panel of corporate and tax lawyers shared their experiences with Canadian employee ownership models, discussing the practical corporate and tax pros and cons of common structures. They also explored the new Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) model and offered perspectives from their early work with this emerging ownership structure.

The session provided attendees with valuable insights into the legal and tax frameworks that support employee ownership in Canada, equipping business leaders and advisors with practical considerations for succession and growth. Bennett Jones tax associate Wade Ritchie was also in attendance.
