The Deal Landscape—What Drivers and Trends are Driving Canadian M&A

Abbas Ali Khan moderated a panel of experts including Bosa Kosoric, on the drivers and trends that are driving Canadian M&A at the Capital Markets Forum on September 21, 2023. Participants gathered to network and discuss key drivers and trends in Canada’s capital markets, and how players in the sector are evolving their approaches and practices alongside them.

Trends discussed by the panel included:

• Increased scrutiny in deals surrounding ESG;
• More focused availability of capital in specific sectors such as technology and critical and battery minerals;
• Deal volumes across tech, media and telecommunications;  
• Deal activity and values in the energy, utilities and mining sectors;
• Deal activity in sub sectors such as critical and battery minerals and renewable energy; and
• M&A activity from larger financial institutions.
