Mariette's practice focuses on all aspects of pension and benefits law including regulatory compliance, due diligence, purchase and sale agreements, governance and pension plan administration. She advises employers on pension and benefit issues arising in a wide range of circumstances including corporate reorganizations, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, as well as insolvencies and restructurings, plan wind ups, asset transfers, surplus disputes, negotiations with regulatory authorities and cross-border matters. She also advises extensively on ongoing compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
Mariette has experience advising sponsors and administrators of both federally and provincially regulated defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans for unionized and non-unionized employees. She works regularly with employers on their supplementary executive pension arrangements, group savings plans and flexible benefit plans. Mariette is also involved in the design, drafting and implementation of pension and benefit plans and related funding arrangements.
Prior to joining Bennett Jones, Mariette assisted clients as a Principal at a major global consulting firm.
In 2015, Mariette was appointed to the Council of the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario. Mariette is also a member of the Canadian Pension and Benefits Institute, the Association of Canadian Pension Management, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Canadian Tax Foundation.
