Alastair MacKinnon has a general litigation practice encompassing a range of commercial and civil disputes, including class action litigation. He represents clients in the energy, construction and financial services industries, amongst others, and he acts on behalf of clients before the Ontario and Alberta courts, before various administrative tribunals, and in arbitration and mediation proceedings.
In his practice, Alastair has earned a reputation for his keen legal research skills. He has written winning legal briefs on matters ranging from the abandonment of easements to the inter-provincial enforcement of injunctions in fraud recovery actions.
Alastair advises clients frequently on complex questions of contractual interpretation; some of these issues include mineral ownership rights in energy disputes, insurance coverage disputes, and rights of contractual termination in construction litigation. In all cases, Alastair adopts a pragmatic and solutions-oriented approach to achieve the best results for his clients.
Prior to joining Bennett Jones, Alastair was a law clerk at the Alberta Court of Appeal. He is proficient in both reading and speaking French.
