In the April 2026 edition of the Canadian Mining Journal column, Sander Grieve KC and Andrew Disipio examine the disconnect between Canada's abundant critical mineral resources and its ability to convert that natural advantage into long-term economic and strategic benefits. While Canada possesses many of the minerals identified as essential to the global energy transition and modern supply chains, significant challenges remain in moving projects from exploration to production.

In their column, Sander and Andrew discuss opportunities in Canada's critical minerals sector, while exploring challenges such as the policy, regulatory and investment hurdles that continue to impede the development of domestic supply chains. They argue that without a more coordinated approach, Canada risks continuing to export raw resources while relying on other jurisdictions to capture greater value through downstream processing and manufacturing.
