The India practice group is led by Raj Sahni in Toronto with Kasi Rao as the firm's Senior Advisor on India, and comprises the expertise of advisors from multiple practice areas, including public policy, energy, environmental and climate change, international trade and investment, taxation, technology, public-private partnerships, real estate, employment and immigration, insolvency and restructuring, and corporate finance and acquisitions, as well as manufacturing and operational related advice. We have assisted clients on numerous mandates relating to India, including: outsourcing and technology licensing agreements involving India's largest outsourcing companies, a merger and acquisition transaction involving one of India's largest oil companies and a Canadian multinational, advising on carbon emissions reduction projects and carbon credits involving a large Indian multinational, advising one of India's largest food processing companies on trademark and intellectual property issues in North America, and advising an Indian engineering company with respect to a large Canadian power project.

Select Experience

  • Dofasco Inc., one of the five Canadian producers, in connection with the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) continued finding of injury against dumped and subsidized imports of hot-rolled carbon and alloy steel sheet from Brazil, the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Taipei, India, South Africa and Ukraine, which ensures that dumped and subsidized hot-rolled steel sheet from these countries will not be sold in the Canadian market.
  • Zwaig Associates Inc. - counsel to Zwaig in its dual capacity as proposal trustee and interim receiver of EnerNorth Industries Inc. in connection with EnerNorth's attempted restructuring under the BIA involving assets located in Canada, India and elsewhere.
