John Cordeau's practice encompasses all aspects of litigation with emphasis on commercial disputes, administrative law, professional regulation, insurance matters, and insolvency and enforcement actions relating to receiverships and debt restructurings.
John's clients include oil and gas companies, financial institutions, utility companies, professional associations and institutions, regulatory parties, partnerships, and several justice-related organizations. Since 1980 he has acted as special advisor to the Calgary Police Service and has served ten Chiefs of Police. He has also been actively involved with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary.
He appears before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and acts as counsel on Commission proceedings, fatality inquiries, inquests, internal investigations and other quasi-criminal matters relating to negligence, breach of trust and breach of fiduciary duty.
He has served on a number of public corporate boards including Petro Canada, NAV Canada and Synenco Energy as well as a number of private boards.
From 1995 to 2011 he was actively involved in firm management, having been elected by the Partnership on 14 occasions to serve in various capacities including Department Head, Chairman, and Lead Director.
John serves on a number of community boards including the Military Museums Foundation and Unlocking Potential Foundation and is an active contributor to many charities.
