Essential Functions:

  • Provide an approachable, helpful, and knowledgeable first point of contact for all firm members seeking timely in-depth legal and business research
  • Conduct timely and complex legal and business research
  • Prepare daily news services and customized monitoring of legislative and case law developments
  • Train and advise students and lawyers on the use of resources and legal research methods
  • Conduct trials, demos, and testing of new applications and upgrades to existing products plus gather and analyze feedback received, from lawyers and students, on these applications or upgrades
  • Conduct client, competitor, and industry research and analysis in support of business development activities
  • Attend practice group meetings, provide specialized updates and act as a point person for these groups to enhance library services
  • Collaborate with other members of the Knowledge and Information Services Department to improve business processes, tools, methods, and effectiveness


  • Master's Degree in Library and Information Studies from an ALA accredited university
  • Seven or more years of experience working in a legal or corporate library is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with the law, legal systems, and legal processes of Canada, the United States and Commonwealth jurisdictions
  • Knowledge of legal research methodologies and resources
  • Advanced search skills on legal databases such as Westlaw Canada and Lexis Advance Quicklaw, as well as business databases such as Bloomberg, CapitalIQ, Certent DisclosureNet and other similar databases
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and entrepreneurial with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Proven ability to prioritize and work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to approach problems with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm, and initiative, focusing on client service excellence
  • Committed to ongoing professional development
  • Strong communication skills including written, verbal, and presentation
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset
