Steven Bennett practices corporate and securities law, with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, private equity and corporate governance matters. While Steven acts for clients in a number of industries, he has significant experience representing domestic and international clients in inter-jurisdictional transactions in the mining and resources sector.
He has represented companies, boards of directors, special committees, management teams, private equity sponsors, hedge funds, financial advisors and other transaction participants in a wide range of public and private M&A transactions (including plans of arrangement, take-over bids, amalgamations and share and asset purchase transactions), joint venture and option agreements, streaming transactions, royalties and project acquisitions. He also regularly advises issuers and investment dealers in connection with a wide range of domestic and cross-border financing transactions, including initial public offerings, secondary offerings, private placements and other forms of equity and debt financing, and counsels clients on corporate governance and securities law and stock exchange compliance matters. Steven also has experience advising clients involved in the acquisition and financing of carbon offset credits and related emissions trading markets.
Prior to joining Bennett Jones, Steven was a partner at another Canadian national law firm, where he served as the Co-Head of the Mining Group.
Steven is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association. He is also a licensed Ontario prospector.
Additionally, Steven has completed a certificate program in Financial Analysis & Investment Management (University of Toronto) and has also obtained the designation CIM (Canadian Investment Manager) from the Canadian Securities Institute (2010).
