Law.Com International reports on John Mercury becoming the new Executive Chair at Bennett Jones and Dominique Hussey as the new CEO, starting January 1, 2024.

John tells Law.com that the firm is focused on delivering value to Canadian, U.S. and international clients, and understanding their business needs. "We will focus on international investment into Canada and not aim to be all things to all people," he adds.

Dominique says she expects that Bennett Jones "will continue to be an outstanding place to work and attract, retain and nurture top talent. This is a priority of mine, and it will allow the firm to serve our clients with a focus on legal excellence, a business-minded approach and deep industry expertise."

John has held several leadership positions with the firm since joining in 2006, including more than 11 years on the partnership board and as vice chair of clients and industries. He leads the firm’s client and industry initiatives and international strategy and has built a leading cross-border M&A and private equity practice, serving Canadian, U.S., and international clients.

Dominique has been on the firm’s partnership board since 2017. In 2020, she became vice chair of the firm and managing partner of the Toronto office. She’s also led the firm’s intellectual property litigation group since 2011 and is co-head of the innovation, technology and branding group. She is a highly respected intellectual property litigator and patent lawyer with clients in the pharmaceutical, energy, and fintech sectors.
