Two Bennett Jones Partners named Lexpert Rising Stars - Top 40 under 40

Toronto - At a gala dinner last night in Toronto Lexpert Magazine named the recipients of this year's Top 40 under 40 in the legal profession. The honourees included Brent Kraus and Anu Nijhawan, Partners in Bennett Jones' Calgary office.

"This recognition only confirms what their clients and their colleagues have long known", says Hugh MacKinnon, CEO of Bennett Jones. "Their dedication to the legal profession and the quality of the work they provide is what has made them stand apart", he adds.

Brent Kraus' practice focuses on public and private mergers and acquisitions and capital market transactions involving clients in the upstream and midstream energy and oilfield services industries. Brent is director of the Galileo Education Network and a member of the Board of Directors of the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured (ARBI). Prior to joining Bennett Jones, he served as law clerk to Mr. Justice J.C. Major at the Supreme Court of Canada.

Anu Nijhawan advises on the income tax aspects of corporate and partnership reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financing transactions, and resource taxation issues. She advises on tax planning issues related to international structures for Canadian-based multinational corporations, on investments by non-residents in Canada, and on structuring cross-border acquisitions, divestitures, and financings.

She contributes regularly to a number of tax and industry publications and presents at several tax seminars and conferences on a variety of tax planning topics. Anu is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society and served as chair on the executive of the Southern Alberta tax specialists' subsection of the Canadian Bar Association. She is involved with a variety of charitable and community organizations and is a former board member of the Women's Centre of Calgary.

The gala included a keynote address from Kirstine Stewart, Managing Director of Twitter Canada and was emceed by the CBC's Heather Hiscox.
