New Partner Announcement: Edward Goldenberg Joins Bennett Jones

Bennett Jones LLP today announced that Edward S. Goldenberg has joined the firm as a partner. Mr. Goldenberg will be working primarily out of the firm's Toronto office and from an office in Ottawa, advising clients on strategic and governance issues, public policy and government relations matters.   "Bennett Jones is pleased to welcome Eddie to the firm," says Hugh L. Mr. Goldenberg had a distinguished career working with the Government of Canada, where he served as the Senior Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada (1993-2003) and was the Prime Minister's Chief of Staff (2003). During his time with the Prime Minister's office, he was heavily involved in the preparation of 10 federal budgets, meetings between the Prime Minister and the provincial premiers, meetings with heads of government of numerous countries including all of the G-8 countries, Team Canada trade missions and cabinet committee meetings. Mr. Goldenberg also served in different capacities in all of the major economic departments of the federal government and was the Special Constitutional Advisor to the Minister of Justice (1980-1982).  

On joining Bennett Jones, Mr. Goldenberg states, "I am delighted to join such a dynamic law firm with great roots in western Canada and a strong base in Ontario, and hope to be able to add a public policy perspective based on my national and international experience."   Mr. Goldenberg is one of the authors of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.   He was recently short-listed for the seventh annual Writers' Trust of Canada's Shaughnessy Cohen Award for Political Writing for his bestselling book, The Way It Works: Inside Ottawa (McClelland and Stewart, 2006). 

Mr. Goldenberg joins the ranks of several leading lawyers at Bennett Jones in the fields of energy, bankruptcy and restructuring, intellectual property, technology, banking and finance, tax, corporate and commercial and international business and trade law. Among them are former premier of Alberta Peter Lougheed, former Supreme Court of Canada justice Jack Major, former deputy prime minister of Canada Anne McLellan, and former Canadian ambassador to the United States of America Allan Gotlieb.
