Bennett Jones LLP, one of Canada's leading business law firms today welcomed David Dodge, former Governor of the Bank of Canada (February 1, 2001 to January 31, 2008) to the firm as Senior Advisor.

Mr. Dodge's unmatched expertise in government, business and domestic and international finance will provide invaluable insight and advice to clients in a period of complicated and turbulent financial markets.

Says Hugh MacKinnon, Chairman and CEO of Bennett Jones, "We are honoured to have David Dodge join our firm. He has held the highest positions in the public service of Canada, he has distinguished himself in both domestic and international finance, and he will be a great resource for our clients and our firm in understanding what is happening today in global finance. Besides, we figured it certainly wouldn't hurt to have someone on the team whose name is on our currency."

"Bennett Jones is a forward thinking law firm with an international outlook and a willingness to have senior advisors on their team. I share in their commitment to help clients understand national and international economic developments, and to navigate global markets and succeed," said Mr. Dodge. "I'm remarkably pleased to join Bennett Jones and to help build the new Ottawa office from the ground up."

A native of Toronto, Mr. Dodge received a bachelor's degree (honours) in economics from Queen's University, and a PhD in economics from Princeton (1972).  During a distinguished career in the federal public service, he held senior positions in the Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Anti-Inflation Board, and the Department of Employment and Immigration. After serving in a number of increasingly senior positions at the Department of Finance, including that of G-7 Deputy, Mr. Dodge was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance in 1992.  He played a key role in the elimination of the fiscal deficit, and in securing the long term sustainability of Canada's public pension system.  In 1998, Mr. Dodge was appointed Deputy Minister of Health, a position he held until his appointment as Governor of the Bank of Canada.  He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2007, and most recently became Chancellor of Queen's University.

Eddie Goldenberg, a partner at Bennett Jones adds, "During my ten years as senior policy advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada, I worked closely with David Dodge in government and saw firsthand his tremendous ability to find solutions to the most intractable problems in Canada. I am thrilled that David will bring the same energy and thoughtfulness to our clients in Canada and around the world.

"Mr. Dodge adds unquestionable depth to the team of business advisory experts we have available for our clients," said Hugh MacKinnon. "He joins Paul Cantor, partner Eddie Goldenberg, Allan Gotlieb, Peter Lougheed, Jack Major, Anne McLellan and Paul Moore to help our clients manage change and build momentum."
