Micaela Zila maintains a general regulatory and environmental practice. She assists clients in proceedings before regulatory bodies including the Alberta Energy Regulator, the Alberta Utilities Commission, the Surface Rights Board, the Land Compensation Board, and the National Energy Board.
Micaela counsels clients on matters relating to enforcement actions, environmental prosecutions, and investigations associated with major operational incidents.
Micaela has experience assisting clients acquiring import and export permits from the National Energy Board and advising on matters relating to exports under various free trade agreements. She also has experience defending clients against penalties imposed pursuant to Canadian environmental legislation.
Prior to joining Bennett Jones, Micaela worked as a Competition Law Officer at the Canadian Competition Bureau. Micaela also has extensive international work and study experience, and has studied European Competition Law at the University of Mannheim in Germany.
