Rob McDonald has won a 2023 Distinguished Service Award for Service to the Profession. Jointly presented by Canadian Bar Association (Alberta Branch) and the Law Society of Alberta, these prestigious awards recognize the outstanding contributions Alberta lawyers make to the legal profession.

This year's winners will be honoured at an awards ceremony on February 22, 2023, in Calgary. More information on the event is available here.

Rob practices in the area of intellectual property law and is a partner in the Edmonton office. He focuses on copyright, trademark and patent litigation, and advises clients locally, nationally and globally on branding strategy and protection, enforcement and commercialization of IP.

Throughout this 33-year career, he has been committed to growing and supporting the intellectual property legal bar and innovation ecosystem in Alberta through mentorship, continuing legal education, industry groups and teaching the next generation of law students at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, where he has taught hundreds of lawyers as a sessional instructor in IP for over three decades. Rob is recognized as one of Canada's leading IP lawyers by numerous publications including Best Lawyers in Canada and Lexpert.

He is honored to be receiving this award and is thankful for the mentorship and support that he has received over the years.
