Don Greenfield has over 36 years of experience in asset and share sales and acquisitions in Canada and internationally, oil sands and LNG development, production and facilities construction and operating matters, production sale contracts, financings, joint ventures, limited partnerships, farmouts and Investment Canada Act and Competition Act matters.

Donald Greenfield QC is widely respected for his work in the oil and gas and energy sectors, with a particular focus on asset sales, joint ventures, divestitures and financing matters. He wins particular recognition for his involvement in international transactions.

Don acts for domestic and international exploration and production companies and companies engaged in various upstream and midstream activities, as well as state-owned oil companies.

He is a former executive member of the Natural Resources subsection of the Canadian Bar Association, has contributed to several Canadian Energy Law Foundation Jasper research seminars and has taught oil and gas law courses for Insight Information, the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University and the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen. Don served a six-year term as a director of the Canadian Energy Law Foundation.

Recent Experience

Schlumberger Production Management, on the purchase of the Palliser Block assets in Alberta from Cenovus Energy Inc. for cash consideration of $1.3 billion.
Paramount Resources Ltd., in the sale of its sour gas processing assets in north western Alberta to Pembina Gas Services Limited Partnership, for approximately $600 Million in cash and other considerations. 
EOG Resources, Inc., one of the largest independent North American oil and natural gas exploration and production companies, in a divestment of all of its assets in Manitoba and certain assets in Alberta through two separate transactions for approximately US $410 million.
Repsol S.A., in the proposed $15.1-billion acquisition of Talisman Energy Inc.
Canadian Non-Operated Resources I Ltd., in its $500-million Peace River High purchase from and joint venture with Tourmaline Oil Corp.
JAPEX Montney Ltd., a Canadian subsidiary of Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX), in the acquisition, from Canadian subsidiaries of PETRONAS, the Malaysian national oil company, of an undivided 10% interest in upstream natural gas assets located in the North Montney area of NE BC and the proposed Pacific Northwest LNG export facility to be built near Prince Rupert, BC.
PetroChina International Investment Company Limited, in its acquisition of an undivided 49.9% interest in Encana Corporation's approximately 445,000 acres in the Duvernay play for a consideration of $2.18 billion and its joint venture with Encana to develop the Duvernay land holdings in west-central Alberta.
Pan Orient Energy Corp., on its sale of its subsidiary Pan Orient Energy (Thailand) Ltd., which directly or indirectly holds 60% interests in petroleum Concessions SW1 and L44/43 and L33/43 in Thailand, for approximately US$180 million.
Sinopec Group, in its $2.9-billion acquisition of Daylight Energy Ltd.
Quicksilver Resources Canada Inc., in the formation of a midstream partnership with a subsidiary of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P
Plains Midstream Canada ULC, in its $1.67-billion acquisition of the Canadian natural gas liquids and liquefied petroleum gas business of BP Canada.
Harvest Operations Corp., in the purchase of Hunt Oil Company's Canadian oil and natural gas assets for approximately $525 million.
Shell Canada Limited, in its approximately $8.7-billion acquisition by Shell Investments Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell plc.
Pengrowth Energy Trust, in its approximately $1.1-billion acquisition of Canadian oil and gas properties and undeveloped lands through the acquisition of the shares of four subsidiaries of ConocoPhillips Canada.
Pengrowth Energy Trust, in its $1.3-billion acquisition of Esprit Energy Trust.
Carlyle/Riverstone Global Energy and Power Fund, in the fund's US$1.2-billion acquisition of EnCana Corporation's gas storage business, now known as Niska Gas Storage.
Teck Resources Limited, in its acquisition of a minority interest from Suncor Energy Products Inc. in the Wintering Hills Windfarm, an 88 megawatt project consisting of 55 wind turbines currently being constructed near Drumheller, Alberta.  The $66,000,000 paid by Teck Resources Limited will be used to fund the completion of the windfarm which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2011.  
Teck Cominco Limited, in the $475-million acquisition of a 15 percent interest in the Fort Hill Oil Sands Project from UTS Energy Inc. and Petro-Canada.
Synenco Energy Inc., in the approximately $105-million negotiation and execution of a series of agreements related to SinoCanada Petroleum Corporation's acquisition of a 40-percent interest in the Northern Lights Oil Sands Project.
ConocoPhillips, in the Surmont Oil Sands Project.
Pengrowth Corporation and Pengrowth Energy Trust, in the $550-million acquisition of certain Alberta and Saskatchewan oil and natural gas properties by way of the purchase of a subsidiary of Murphy Oil Corporation. 
BG Group plc, in its US$345.6-million acquisition of El Paso Oil & Gas Canada Inc.
Canadian Hunter, in structuring and establishing its Argentinean operation and its acquisition of Atalaya Energy S.A.
Conoco, in its acquisition of Petro-Canada's NGL extraction, marketing, and transportation business.
Gulf Canada, in the establishment of Gulf Midstream Services.
Gulf Canada, in the establishment of Petrovera Resources.
Gulf Canada, in the establishment of Tidal Energy Marketing.
Arakis Energy Corporation, in all aspects of the acquisition, consortium arrangements, tax planning, exploration and development and pipeline construction for the Sudan Petroleum Project, a joint venture also involving CNPC and PETRONAS.
A UK company, in its operations in Cameroon.
A U.S. independent, in the negotiation of a gas conservation project in Russia Independent Power Projects.
A large Canadian gas producer, in a large energy project in Mexico, including the analysis of Mexican constitutional issues, NAFTA and WTO rules, procurement laws and regulatory developments.
A major Canadian gas producer, in a long-term prepaid natural gas sale agreement with a New York co-generation project.
Gulfstream Resources Canada Limited, a Canadian oil and gas company, in its exploration and production activities in Madagascar, Oman, and offshore Qatar.
Korea National Oil Corporation, the state-owned oil and gas company of South Korea, in its acquisition of Harvest Energy Trust for approximately $4.1 billion.
