On August 22, 2018, Trans Mountain Pipeline L.P. announced that it had selected seven (7) contractors to lead construction of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project. The Trans Mountain Expansion Project essentially consists of the twinning of the existing 1,150 km pipeline between Strathcona County (near Edmonton), Alberta and Burnaby British Columbia, and the expansion of the associated terminal storage facilities and construction of new pump stations.
The Trans Mountain Expansion Project is one of the largest, most complex and politically charged projects to be constructed in Canada in the last few decades and is a project of National importance. The Project is estimated to cost approximately $7.4 billion.
Bennett Jones acted as lead external counsel on project construction matters for Trans Mountain Pipeline L.P., and Bennett Jones’s assistance included the preparation and negotiation of construction contracts required for the completion of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project. The Bennett Jones team consisted of Jason Roth, Thomas McInerney, Geoff Stenger, Stephen Burns (IP), Simon Foxcroft (HSE) and Bradley Eidsness, with Jason Roth as team lead for the Lower Mainland Facility, Thomas McInerney as team lead for Mainline Pipeline Construction, and Geoff Stenger as team lead for Edmonton Terminal Facility and Pipe Purchase Agreements.
Contractors on the Trans Mountain Expansion Project included Kiewit-Ledcor Partnership, Midwest Pipelines Inc., EVRAZ Inc. NA Canada, Jindal Saw Limited, Ledcor Sicim Limited Partnership, Surerus Murphy Joint Venture , Macro Spiecapag Joint Venture, WorleyParsonsCord and Somerville-Aecon Energy Group.
