Richard Kirby’s background as a top-tier lawyer, serial entrepreneur and experienced director and trustee of public, private and not-for-profit organizations has prepared him well to work with clients of all sizes on a broad range of business matters.
Richard practised personal and corporate tax planning for entrepreneurs and public corporations at a boutique Canadian tax law firm in Edmonton. He was that firm's office managing partner from 2010 to 2017 and spearheaded practice growth and geographic expansion in that role.
Richard has a passion for corporate strategy and corporate governance and received his ICD.D designation in 2016. He received his MBA from Cornell University in 2013.
He has been a lecturer for various professional bodies including the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Canadian Bar Association and the Canadian Tax Foundation. He also co-authored the national Taxation of Partnerships course for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Richard was named a Lexpert Rising Star Leading Lawyer Under 40 in 2011 and honoured as one of Edmonton’s Top 40 Under 40 community leaders by Avenue Edmonton in 2013.
Richard is involved in several charitable and for profit boards. While Chair of the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees, he organized the “Summit For Stollery,” in which a team of 12 climbers climbed Mount Kilimanjaro (Richard’s second time) and raised $1 million for the foundation.
