Essential Functions
- Attending to coordination of service and filing of court documents at various levels of court
- Assisting lawyers and paralegals with drafting court document forms and BC court filings
- Managing court filing deadlines and coordination of hearing dates
- Developing and maintaining filing systems
- Opening and organizing client files including managing limitation periods
- Administrative duties as required such as managing calendars, coordinating meetings and making travel arrangements
- Assisting with client billings and preparing invoices and account letters
- Preparing expense reports
- Maintaining up to date contact information
- Liaising with internal clients (regional and firm-wide), lawyers, and staff on various matters
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years' experience as a legal assistant supporting multiple legal professionals within a civil litigation environment
- Post-Secondary education in legal administration or equivalent
- Knowledge of the BC Supreme Court Rules, court practices and procedures
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Office
- Excellent organizational and communication skills; self-motivated with the ability to multi-task
- Impeccable proofreading, grammar skills and attention to detail
- Service oriented, adaptable, reliable and dependable
- Professional work ethic and great attitude
- Maintains confidentiality and discretion
- Exceptional ability to work independently with minimal supervision or within a team environment
