Essential Functions: 

  • Prepare daily news services and customized monitoring of legislative and case law developments
  • Provide specialized updates and act as a point person for practice groups to enhance library services
  • Assist with timely legal and business research
  • Provide assistance with and guidance on the use of the libraries’ collection, Intranet pages, online catalogue and external databases
  • Deliver circulation services, complete document delivery requests and facilitate inter-library loans
  • Collaborate with other members of the Library and Information Services Department to improve business processes, tools, methods and effectiveness

Qualifications:

  • Several years previous experience in a legal environment considered an asset
  • Library Technician Diploma and a Bachelor's degree is required
  • Familiarity with the law, legal systems and legal processes of Canada, the United States and Commonwealth jurisdictions
  • Knowledge of legal research methodologies and resources, both print and electronic
  • Advanced search skills on databases such as WestlawNext Canada, Lexis Advance Quicklaw and the Bloomberg terminal
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and entrepreneurial with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Proven ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to approach problems with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm and initiative, focusing on client service excellence
  • Committed to ongoing professional development
  • Strong communication skills including written, verbal and presentation
